Black Pudding Stool

Black Pudding is a collaboration project between Pantar Amsterdam and selected students at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Pantar Amsterdam is a company that creates jobs for people with various kinds of disabilities which make it impossible for them to have a regular job. In their factories they produce, among other things, lights for airports and various electronic devices, and they are also responsible for the sorting of bulk waste in Amsterdam. We were asked to create jobs by developing products which could be created from unrecyclable bulk waste. Besides wanting to create products that are easy for a person with a lighter mental disability to produce on his or her own, I also wanted to design a product that engendered long-term jobs. In order to do this, the product had to be something that was not restricted to a limited edition material, but could be crafted from constantly recurring “junk”.
